Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay 2006

"The 2006 Estate Chardonnay is sourced from ten estate parcels with a little fruit sourced from identical parcels every year. It has a lovely, Burgundian nose – very minerally with touches of limestone and not a million miles away from a Meursault. The palate is beautifully balanced with that minerally component coming through with touches of limestone and white peach on the aftertaste." The Wine Advocate 90 points

Excelsior Cabernet Sauvignon (2006)

Description:

Excelsior Estate has been owned by the de Wet family in South Africa since 1870.

Today, over 80% of the estate is planted to vines. They own almost 500 acres of vineyards. The new winery was constructed in 1981 and contains all the latest winemaking equipment.

The vineyards at Excelsior are all irrigated by drip irrigation. The soil and climatic conditions are carefully monitored so that the correct amount of water is applied to allow the vines to produce and ripen their grapes fully without overproducing, or producing grapes that are thin and watery.The grapes are carefully sorted to remove any damaged berries before they’re gently crushed and pumped into stainless steel tanks for vinification. After fermentation the wine is matured for several months in French oak barrels.

Dense aromas of black currant, plum, spice and minerals in the bouquet. Full-bodied with moderate acidity and soft, ripe tannins—very well-balanced overall. It offers rich, intense flavors of black cherry and toasty oak with subtle hints of dark chocolate and mocha on the finish.
