WINE REVIEW

Destefanis Dolcetto d'Alba Vigna Monia Bassa 2007

"Full red-ruby. Sexy, complex, soil-driven aromas of dark berries, minerals, dark chocolate, smoked meat and tobacco. Rich and tactile in the mouth, with a subtle sweetness and noteworthy lift to the intriguing currant, smoke and meat flavors.

Brassfield Round Mountain Zinfandel (2005)

Description:

Brassfield Estate Winery & Vineyard includes both the eastern and the western sections of High Valley as well as ownership of Round Mountain Volcano. The wine was aged in small oak cooperage for 19 months of which 30% was new French, American, and Hungarian oak in equal proportions. A small percentage of Syrah from the neighboring vineyard (8%) was blended with this Zinfandel to improve the structure and add some additional depth to the finished wine.

Concentrated sweet fruits of black cherry, blackberry and currants are fused into a brambly mixture with vanilla, black pepper and hints of soy and sassafras adding additional complexity. The alcohol is well balanced by the depth of fruit in the nose, and the lovely, round body of the wine. Soft, integrated tannins complete the big, sumptuous mouth feel and finish to this ever-popular varietal.
